Tenerife Dive Trip

Winter sun, sea, sand and cerveza!!!  Last week 6 members of CSAC went to Tenerife for a week of diving and sightseeing.  There were afternoons in the hot tub, encounters with the local wildlife (named Nikki), a mardi gras fiesta (ok…we missed the parade though), a lovely evening meal cooked by the Kay’s while the neighbour downstairs banged on the ceiling for us to keep the noise down, and a cold trip up the mountain with ice falling off the trees.  And oh yes…the diving as well!!!!  Unfortunately the bigger stuff was a bit shy, but there was still plenty to see – octopus and cuttlefish on nearly every dive, arrow crabs, a large spanish dancer, big schools of barracuda and grunts, trumpet fish, puffer fish and of course the dramatic underwater volcanic landscape.

Fancy joining us next time?  I’m sure we’ll be back again soon – although perhaps when the sea and the evenings are a bit warmer!

15 minutes…er, no…seconds of fame!

Check out the latest issue (Feb 2015) of BSAC’s SCUBA magazine.  Right at the back on page 105 you’ll find a photo of some of our members who dived on a purpose sunk ship, the ‘Almeida de Carvalho’ exactly one year after she went down in Portugal.  It aint much but any PR is good PR!!!!   Well done guys!

Award winners!!!

We Won!!!!  Justin Owen and Nigel Cossons were on hand in London to collect their ‘Adopt a Wreck’ award at the NAS conference on 15/11/14.  Our entry, titled ‘A tale of two Trawlers’ won joint first place in this prestigious competition which takes place each year.  This follows hot on the heels of receiving honourable mention for the same presentation at the BSAC conference at the end of October.  Special congratulations go out to Justin, Nigel, and Chris Holden for heading up the project and all the other members who contributed along the way.
